04/10/12 12:39 PM Oxfordian presentation behind "ENEMY LINES" by titus

Oxfordian Ron Song Destro is presenting his "Who Really Wrote As Will Shakespeare?" talk behind "enemy lines" on May 13th in Stratford-upon-Avon (and then in London). Destro, who is founding director of the Oxford Shakespeare Company theatre and school in New York City, will offer his controversial and persuasive PowerPoint talk in Stratford at Billesley Manor, which is now a hotel, but was once owned by Lady Elizabeth Trussell, Edward de Vere's paternal grandmother, and a relative of Will Shaksper of Stratford-upon-Avon.

Billesley Manor also houses a "Shakespeare Room," where local legend has it As You Like It was written. The talk will be held at 8pm, after his company performs A Midsummer Night's Dream in Bancroft Gardens earlier that afternoon.

In addition, Destro will give his talk in London at The Poor School in King's Cross, at noon on May 15th. This talk will follow a free acting Shakespeare class Destro will hold at the school.

For anyone in the area who would like to reserve a seat at either of these events, registration is free but limited, so please contact Ron by emailing Destro@ShakespeareClass.org.

Proposals for conference papers are now being accepted. The sponsoring organizations are both dedicated to academic excellence, and guidelines for presentation of papers for the joint conferences are available online here or from the members of the program committee. First-time presenters should consult these guidelines before submitting a proposal. Paper proposals should be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 250 words and a brief biography.

To submit a proposal contact: Bonner Cutting jandbcutting@comcast.net, John Hamill hamillx@pacbell.net , or Earl Showerman earlees@charter.net . The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2012.

The conference committee will be sending out updates as our program comes together. The Pasadena theatre company, A Noise Within, will have a fall program in production during the authorship conference. Last fall the company produced Twelfth Night and this spring Antony and Cleopatra will be in production. Their fall schedule will be released by June 1 at which time a group order will be secured, if the production contributes to the goals of the conference.

04/06/11 03:59 PM Shakespeare Oxford Sping Dinner (Massachusetts) by mhyatt

The Shakespeare Oxford Spring Dinner

When: Friday, May 6, 2011

Cocktails at 6:30; Dinner at 7:30

Where: The Elephant Walk, 2067 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge

Why: Much to talk about in 2011!

In the spring of 2009 and 2010, we enjoyed a day-long seminar at the Watertown Free Public Library. This year we thought it would be good to relaunch the evening dinner of years past. There is so much news in the Oxfordian community this year, with the upcoming premiere of Roland Emmerich's blockbuster film Anonymous, the expected completion of two documentaries, Cheryl Eagan-Donovan's Nothing Truer Than Truth and Laura and Lisa Wilson's Last Will and Testament (working title), as well as the long-awaited publication of Richard Roe's The Shakespeare Guide to Italy. Please join us for an evening of good food and good company, in a private room that's ours till 10 p.m.

Dinner will be $40 per person. This includes dinner, taxes and gratuities and appetizers for the cocktail hour. The three-course dinner includes a choice of appetizer, choice of entree and choice of dessert from the "Tasting Menu," a delightful way to experience The Elephant Walk's Cambodian and French cuisine. There will be a cash bar for cocktails or other beverages.

Directions: The Elephant Walk (617-492-6900) is just west of Porter Square, a short walk from the Red Line Porter Square Station, and on the 77 bus line. The restaurant is located in the red brick building across from Walden Street. There is free parking in a lot behind the restaurant.

We will meet downstairs in the restaurant's private party room. Wheelchair accessible through elevator.

RSVP by May 5, 2011. Please include your full name and number attending to: Alex@amcneil.com.

Payment may be made at the restaurant on the day of the event by cash or check only; NO CREDIT CARDS PLEASE! Sorry, but the restaurant cannot accommodate separate cards with a large group. If you'd prefer to prepay, please make your check payable to Alex McNeil and send it to 301 Islington Road, Auburndale MA 02466.

We hope to see you there!
